Video Checklist: 5 Things to Check When Reviewing a Video Project

When you work with a videographer, you are the producer. Feedback is essential in creating a cohesive video for your website.

Use this checklist during the review process to ensure that you are on the same page with your videographer. The first cuts of a video are not perfect but you can help by offering the necessary feedback.

Here are 5 things you should check when reviewing a first cut of a video project:

  • Music – Make sure the music in the video portrays the mood you want for the video
  • B-roll – B-roll is the filler footage that often overlays dialogue or makes up short montages. Make sure the b-roll is the best it can be. Many of these shots can be cropped or swapped out with other b-roll.
  • Contact Card – What contact information do you want to include? If your company’s contact information is included in the video, make sure to double check that your contact details (such as a phone number, address, or email) are correct. Likewise, if you’re using associated website annotations in your videos, it’s important that the links are directing viewers to the right pages on your website so they can quickly and easily act on your calls-to-action.
  • Dialogue – Often a short one minute video will be edited down from a 15 minute interview. What are the three most important topics you wanted to cover in the video? Did you write a short video script that helps convey those topics? Remember, a quick one minute video probably won’t cover everything you thought was important.
  • Your Logo – Make sure your logo makes a frequent appearance in the video. Are you using the most up-to-date version of your logo? Make sure to supply the best resolution logo you have.

Tip: Typically, videos for the web will not be heavily branded. Branding changes and so does the website design. Having a video that can capture the flavor of your business without being outdated when a website redesign happens is a perfect web video.
