Link Popularity - The right way...You've read that link popularity is important, but exactly how do you find links that will help you? First, read some do-it-yourself Internet Marketing and Link Popularity tips we've provided here to give you some basics on how to market your site. Finding quality web sites and directories can bring you added traffic, increase your search engine visibility, and increase how popular you appear to the search engines. This in turn can often help boost your placements as most search engines factor link popularity into their algorithms. So, what types of links are best for your industry? Sites and directories that are connected to your industry! Sites that would send you traffic. Sites that you would want to be in naturally! These sites either share the same keyword focus as your site, or they relate to the same target audience. Quality link building requires diligence, patience, good researching skills and some good old-fashioned common sense. Links from business or product-specific directories are excellent. For example, if you sell auto parts, look for automotive-related directories and sites. Narrow it down as much as possible. If you sell Land Rover parts, you would want to find directories and fan sites that are focused solely on the Rover. This is your target audience and a link at a Rover fan site will accomplish the three items we feel are the most important when building links. One, this link will send you added traffic as it's your targeted audience. Two, the site will increase your search engine visibility and branding. If everywhere there's a Rover forum or fan site, there's an ad or link to your site, that's excellent targeted visibility. And, three, it provides a link that could help boost your placements by providing a quality, market-specific link to your site. |

What's a "bad" link? As you search for information on link
popularity, you will read forums, articles and newsletters that may
reference link farms, bad reciprocal link exchanges, run of site
links, etc. Here's where the common sense comes in... If someone
writes you and offers you a link from a site that does not share
your target audience, will never send you traffic and does not share
your keyword focus, and is therefore, unlikely to help you gain
placements, then why waste your time and energy trying to get the
link? Because it has a high Google Page Rank? Because they had some
kind of mystical crystal ball that allowed them to see into the
future and know with absolute certainty at the next Google update
their site would positively be a PR5? You'd be better off letting
them pick lottery numbers for you than trading links with them.
Don't pay attention to the Google Page Rank!! Pay attention to the
web site! Look at it for quality... look at who is linking in to it
and ask yourself - Does this site share my keyword focus? Will it
send me traffic? Is it a quality site that I want my site to be
associated with?
Depending on your business, in can be a time consuming and challenging task to find high-quality sites that you want to get linked from, but well worth the effort. Through algorithms that measure relationships on the Internet, search engines either disregard a link, or pay attention to it. Make sure your links get paid attention to, and only add links or exchange links with those sites that will benefit both your target audience, and YOU! |
