With his expressive brown eyes, boundless energy and enthusiasm, and a tail that wags nonstop it’s no wonder that the guy pictured left is a favorite around the office. Of course, Bailey’s owner and our Director of Corporate Marketing, Jeremy Abel, is pretty well-liked, too.

Jeremy (and Bailey) came to Mannix about five years ago from a small software startup in Troy, NY where Jeremy did SEO, content development, and social media. He said “it was a great place to learn, and I became really passionate about new marketing techniques.” Jeremy decided to apply for a job with Mannix because that passion made him “want to tell other companies about what digital marketing and SEO could do for them.”

Now Jeremy’s typical day is never typical. Somewhat seasonal and always changing to keep ahead of digital marketing trends, Jeremy does everything from what you’d expect would come along with his job title (corporate content, digital, and social media marketing) to organizing conferences, overseeing ad campaigns, and even working with CEO Sara Mannix on sales when he starts to miss client-facing work.

Jeremy most enjoys the opportunity that his job and Mannix affords him to keep learning. In fact, he will be packing his bags this month to head to INBOUND 2016, a highly rated international inbound marketing conference hosted by Hubspot. “There’s always something to learn in this field,” Jeremy told me. “Sara knows so much and wants to know more, and that’s where a lot of the learning comes from. To say she’s had a profound and positive impact on my career would be an understatement, and I’m forever grateful. With a boss who’s open to new ideas, believes in your true potential, and- most of all- has an incredible heart, the sky’s the limit.”

If you’ve been to M2Con or spoken with Jeremy, then you are almost definitely surprised by what I am going to reveal next: Jeremy’s greatest personal and professional challenge was getting over a fear of public speaking. This is, of course, astonishing to peers and colleagues who know Jeremy as a supremely confident and fluid public speaker. Jeremy gives regular presentations on inbound marketing and website design strategies that involve audience participation, which is perhaps the one way to absolutely guarantee your presentation doesn’t go the way you practiced it.  Always a favorite presenter at M2Con, Jeremy said that he is “typically nervous at the start because we get such a big audience, but building trust and authority with them is exciting now. I love it!”

Outside the office, Jeremy is usually cycling, on the mat doing power yoga, or listening to an eclectic collection of podcast subscriptions (btw, he recommends Mad Marketing and the HBR Audio Cast). Just be warned if you ever put his iPhone on shuffle: Jeremy Abel loves rap. Lil’ Wayne, Drake, DJ Khaled … you name the rapper and Jeremy is cruisin’ up and down the Northway bustin’ rhymes.

When he was younger, Jeremy wanted to be a comedian when he grew up because “seeing people smile is so rewarding”. Well, Jeremy may not be a professional comedian, but he’s still making people smile every day with his positive energy and enthusiasm for his job and figuring out what’s next for marketing and for Mannix.
