Advertising Sales Representative

Regional Content Editor & Writer

The Regional Content Editor/Writer position works within a team of writers, editors and marketers to produce high-quality content for our popular regional guides, such as LakeGeorge.com, Saratoga.com, Albany.com and Adirondack.net. This is a full-time, 40 hours per-week position that reports to the Director of Regional Guides. Ideal candidates will have 3 –5 years of experience in a writing position or similar field, and 1 – 3 years of experience in editing. Marketing and SEO experience is a plus.

Responsibilities include a variety of duties such as:

  • Work within the Editorial Calendar to research, write, edit, and publish on a daily basis, unique regional content, based on the target market.
  • Participate in regular brainstorming sessions for new content and marketing ideas
  • Create content designed to highlight attractions, businesses and things to do throughout the region, from Albany to the Adirondacks
  • Create timely blog articles about upcoming events, business openings, restaurant reviews, op-eds, and other regional news
  • Work with clients to schedule and conduct interviews, either in-person or by phone on an as-needed basis, which may include attending events throughout the area.
  • Assist with the research, planning and production of email newsletters
  • Work within the team to help develop writing and editing efficiencies that allow us to plan, write and publish articles as effectively as possible
  • Contribute to an ongoing needs assessment of the regional guides with the overall goal to develop content that will increase site metrics including lift in traffic, page views and time on site
  • Assist with event calendar management as needed, including reviewing and approving user submitted events, editing existing events and providing feedback on continual enhancements to the events calendar system
  • Coordinate strategies with and assist the Social Media Manager when needed
  • Foster a positive community spirit for locals, tourists, small businesses and nonprofits in the areas represented
  • Research and keep up to date on current content marketing and digital marketing trends, updating and sharing information with internal teams as needed
  • Utilize project management and time tracking tools

The ideal candidate will: hold a BA in either English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar degree; use a creative mindset to suggest changes, updates, edits, and new formats; uphold deadlines, multitask, communicate efficiently and clearly; and can manage multiple projects at once.

This position requires exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should be detail oriented with ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed. Knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, WordPress and HTML/CSS is preferred. A strong knowledge of the regions and local communities we write about is required.
